Losa Abera’s brace was not enough to secure a final berth for Ethiopia’s Lucy as they were edged 3-2 by hot favorites Kenya’s Harambee Starlets in the ongoing CECAFA Women’s Championship in Uganda.
The semi-final clash was billed as the final before the final and without iota of a doubt it lived up-to the hype.
Starlets who had not conceded a single goal in the competition let in Losa’s stunner in the 37th minute but the Kenyan queens manged to recover in the second half and sail to the final.
Neddy restored parity for the Coach David Ouma’s side in the 52 minute before hitting a brace in the 64th minute.
Carolyne Anyango stretched the lead further in the 73rd minute with the third, and all was set for a smooth sailing for the Starlets till Losa reduced the deficit eight minutes to stoppage time.
What followed was a fight for survival for the Starlets who had to stand tall and firm to secure the slim lead.
Kenya will now wait for the winner between Uganda and Tanzania to know their Tuesday opponents.
