Ghana pipped Guinea Bissau 2-0 in their ultimate Group F game at the Suez Stadium in Suez on Tuesday evening to advanced to the knockout stage of the Total 2019 Total African Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Ghana started game on a frontfoot and forced the Bissau-Guinean goalkeeper to make a save in the opening 15 minute following a cross from leftback Baba Rahman.
Guinea showed an attacking intent just after that and almost open the scoring through Djassi Piquetti but his powerful strike ransacked the goal post.
Jordan Ayew nearly put the Black Stars ahead in the 35th minute after a wonderful pass from Mubarak Wakaso but his right-footed shot strucked the base of the far post.
Kwabena Owusu came close to scoring just before the break but his header flew past the goal post.
Jordan Ayew gave Ghana the lead a minute intothe second period after a neat pass from Baba Rahman.
Guinea Bissau almost pulled parity seven minutes later through Joe Mendes but his fine was denied by the goal post.
Thomas Partey doubled Ghana’s advan…tage in the 71st minute after he connected Baba Rahman’s excellent cross.
The Bissau-Guinean pushed forward for a consolation goal but the Ghana defence stood firm and held on their lead as the Gabonese referee blew his whistle to bring the game to a close.
Cameroon and Benin played out a 0-0 drawn game at the Ismailia Stadium in Ismailia in the other Group fixture.
Ghana head Group F with 5 points tied on points with Cameroon but have a superior goal difference, Benin occupy the third spot with 3 point with Guinea Bissau languishing at the foot of the table.
