South Sudan’s Young Stars FC Torit team bus was on Tuesday evening attacked by gunmen in Torit -Juba road, resulting in the death of the driver and injury to several passengers, including one player.
Armed rebels fired machine guns at the bus at around 7pm near a village called Lelere which is 15 minutes away from Torit Town.
The bus driver was described as dead on the scene, while one player was also caught in the fire. James Jordan Ohio a defender suffered bullet injuries together with acting club director Abuna Otimore.
Anthman Fermato who serves as the Chaiman of Torit local football association was also among casulties.
South Sudan Police say no valuables items were looted in the vehicle that was carrying over fifteen people.
Young Stars Torit were travelling from Juba having lost their match 3-0 to Al-Salam (Wau) in the South Sudan Cup finals.
