Themba Zwane shows his class, dreams of being a club legend

Mamelodi Sundowns Midfielder Themba Zwane won big at the PSL Awards bagging three personal accolades.

Mamelodi Sundowns showed their dominance in the South African football fraternity as they scooped most of the categories with Zwane getting three.

Zwane scooped Midfielder of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season and the biggest accolade of the night – Footballer of the Season.

The 2019/20 season was a great season for Themba Zwane in Mamelodi Sundowns colours. The Tembisa born showed his class as he was one of the best players in the league, and he was one of the players that raised his hands in the treble-winning Masandawana side.

“It was a great season, working with these talented guys at the club, as they pushed me to play my best and everyone on the team was working hard. We as a team are in a great environment, we want to push and win trophies, as that is what our club is about,” said Zwane

The Bafana Bafana international played forty-two games in the past season and reached double digits in the number of goals he scored as he found the back of the net fifteen times. Mshishi said that “I want to continue to fight for the team, I want to achieve more. Some players, such as Surprise Moriri, have played for the club before me, and players like him inspire me. They are legends of the team and I too, oneday want to be a legendary Sundowns player”.

The league kicks off this weekend with a clash against Kaizer Chiefs, and the team has been busy preparing for the clash after a disappointing loss to Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN 8.

“We’ve been doing well and working with the coaches preparing for the new season. It feels good, we are ready to do battle. I know it won’t be easy but we are going to go out and fight till the end.”

A worthy mention also goes to former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane who picked up coach of the season and the PSL Annual Chairman’s award. Mosimane left the South African club to join Al Ahly of Egypt.
