Zimbabwe and Uganda played out to a 1-1 draw in their second Group A game of the Total Africa Cup of Nations, at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday night.
Simba striker Emmanuel Okwi opened the scoring for the Cranes in the 15th minute. Lumala Abdu put in a fierce ball which George Chigova spilled into the path of Okwi to register his second goal of the tournament.
Zimbabwe didn’t lie down and kept plugging away. The equalising goal came just before the break with Khama Billiat on target in the 41st minute after some neat work by Ovidy Karuru on the left wing.
A neat cut back from the AmaZulu midfielder found Billiat in the right position at the right time in the box and the Kaizer Chiefs man placed the ball into the net beating Onyango his former teammate at Sundowns.
It was a game of missed chances with Knowledge Musona failing to convert clear cut chances, in a game that Zimbabwe could have.
Onyango scrambled the ball from off the line to keep the scores level in the 69th minute.
Uganda also had chances. Patrick Kaddu on the other side put his volley over the bar in the 75th minute with the goal at his mercy.
Musona missed an opportunity to seal all the three points for Zimbabwe with the game tied at 1 all but his effort hit the upright with an open net.
Sebastian Desabre will probably be happier of the two coaches as his side remains unbeaten and on course for a spot in the last 16.
Sunday Chidzambwa meanwhile has all to do in their remaining game against the DRC.
