Victor Wanyama has intimated to his close friends and relatives that he would like to extend his contract at Southampton Soka25east.com can exclusively reveal.
A very close source to Wanyama revealed that the combative midfielder felt it would be wise to sign an improved contract at Southampton rather than move to a club where his playing future was uncertain.
“Wanyama has been seeking advice from his friends and family and most of theM are of the opinion it would be wise for him to extend his contract at Southampton until such a time he will be ready for a big move instead of being in a hurry yet he will not be guaranteed playing time something he has sincerely enjoyed at Southampton since they game him the golden opportunity to play in the BPL”The close source who sort anonymity told Soka25east.com
Victor Wanywama and Sadio Mane are out of contract in 2017 and, while there is a general expectation that Mane will leave if a suitable offer comes in, there is now optimism at Southampton that Wanyama could extend his deal.
Talks are currently ongoing over an improved long-term contract despite the interest of both Tottenham and Arsenal although Wanyama would be sold if he does enter the last year of his deal.
There has also been outside interest in Long but there is a feeling that he offers a very different option to Pelle or Austin and the club are committed to keeping the Republic of Ireland striker.
Manager Ronald Koeman worked closely with chairman Ralph Krueger and executive director Les Reed on the Austin deal and, while there have been signs of frustration from the manager over the past month, the club remain confident that he will not seek to leave this summer. Koeman’s contract also expires in the summer of 2017 and his situation is unlikely to be addressed until the end of the season. Following wins over this past week against Watford and West Bromwich Albion, the mutual aim is still to equal or better what was a best-ever Premier League finish of seventh last season.
