The defending champions of the Cosafa-U20, Zambia are on the brink of elimination from the competition after battling to a goalless draw against Malawi in a match played at Arthur Davies Stadium this evening.
The young Chipolopolo side were on the back foot early on and nearly conceded but Peter Banda’s corner kick hit the upright on 6 minutes.
Malawi, were tormenting Zambia and it was their marksman Patrick Phiri giving the hosts all sorts of problems.
Edward Chilufya had his shot saved on 35 minutes by Malawi keeper Charles Thom.
Zambia thought they had gone ahead just after the resumption of the second half but Mwepu Francesco’s header was ruled for offside.
Other than that, it was a frustrating affair for the Young Chipolopolo who looked to be tactically inferior to Malawi.
The lack of goals as the clock winded down infuriated the home fans causing them to jeer the team.
The draw leave Zambia on the brink of an embarrassing exit from the tournament they are hosting on home soil with only a point from two games while Malawi join Uganda on 4 points.
