Togo first division league concluded Sunday with AS Togo Port being coroneted champions with forty eight points after twenty six rounds of matches.

However, all eyes were trailed on the danger-zone where a fierce relegation battle involving seven teams was ragging.

Gbikinti FC not only needed to beat Maranatha, but also to score many goals to pip Gomido to safety on goal difference.

And guess what? Gbikinti survived the chop – running over Maranatha 11-0 to finish with 34 points same as Gomido, but with +10 goal difference compared to Gomido’s +8.

The unprecedented outcome has left tongues wagging, with questions being asked whether it was just a display of football genius or a classic case of a fixed match.

Nonetheless, the Togolese FA is yet to officially comment on the issue. Match fixing is considered a serious vice under FIFA, the world’s football governing body, and attracts heavy penalties.

Gomido, despite beating Dyto 2-0 were relegated alongside Agaza, Anges FC and Kotoko.

Semassi sealed a second spot finish with a 2-2 stalemate against Koroki, while AS Togo Port were shocked 3-2 on their big day.
