Tanzania will be favourites to progress into the next round of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying following a 1-1 draw away to Burundi in a first round first-leg clash at Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura on Tuesday afternoon.
In a battle between two powerful strike forces which include Fiston Abdul Razak and Mbwana Samatta, many tipped this clash as the showdown of the opening round in Africa’s qualifying campaign.
While the match failed to produce a flurry of goals, there was a lot of late drama in the Burundian capital.
Cédric Amissi’s 81st minute goal looked to have won the game for the Swallows, but the Taifa Stars hit back four minutes later through Simon Msuwa who scored a valuable away goal.
The reverse fixture will take place at National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, 8 September.
