A day after penning a two year deal with Zambian Super League Champions Zesco United believed to be worth around Kshs 2M, Anthony “Viera” Akumu has exclusively disclosed to Soka25east.com why he exited Al Khartoum.

With a year still left on his contract, the lanky midfield dynamo was released by the Sudanese side, in a move the player believes was aided by uneasy relationship between him and Khartoum’s Assistant Coach Prince Owosu.

The former Medeama FC of Ghana coach, joined his countryman Kwesi Appiah as deputy in November 2014, and at the end of the season, he signed a Ghanain player in the same role Akumu was playing. Despite the Kenyan international remaining focused and disciplined the strained relationship made his future hang in the balance.

“I left Khartoum because of the assistant Coach (Prince Owosu). He brought a player who plays same role as mine, and he all over sudden started being tough on me. Even though the Club didn’t give me a reason for their action, I believe that was the major contributing factor,” Akumu said.

He is however holding no grudges, “ I want to thank the club for the opportunity to advance my career. I want to specifically thank Coach Kwesi Appiah for believing in me, he is a great coach,”

The former Gor Mahia man is excited about the new life in the Southern African country, saying he is ready to take up the role.

“I’m getting myself ready for the task ahead which I believe I’m equal to.”

Akumu will return to Ndola after Christmas for medicals before joining “Team Yaziko” officially.
