A group of Gor Mahia fans said to be tired of status quo, and the manner in which the current chairman Ambrose Rachier is unilaterally making crucial decisions for the club without due consultations with stake holders, are planning to stage a demonstration on Wednesday this week in Nairobi to force for polls.
The development comes in the wake of a storm within K’Ogalo’s ruling rank, kicked off by Mr. Rachier’s move to register Gor Mahia under the new Sports Act 2013, and in the process forwarding just three names of officials including himself to the register, to form Managing Committee, leaving out seven others, elected from the previous regime.
Sources reveal that, the decision to axe the seven officials came to fore a couple of weeks ago at a heated Executive Committee meeting held in Nairobi, where the shocked officials demanded for immediate elections which they said were long overdue.
As per Gor Mahia constitution, elections should have been held by December 2015, two years after the last polls were conducted early 2014, but nothing seems to be moving in that regard according to the fans, and the formation of the managing committee before full transition from Societies Act to the new Sports Act, they say points to Mr. Rachier’s wish to cling on to power.
The new act calls for election of a chairman before the managing committee is formed, as part of the transition process.
The exact venue for the demo will be communicated after the group clears with relevant authorities.
