Kenyan Premier League reigning champions Gor Mahia have bagged two trophies this year even before the new season commences in February – K’Ogalo beat host St. George FC of Ethiopia to lift the club’s 80th anniversary tournament before downing Al Hilal of Sudan last week to lift Port Sudan City’s tourism and shopping festival tournament.
The team is getting in shape under Coach Frank Nuttall as they aim to make a serious stab at the CAF Champions League where they have failed to sparkle previously.
In all these, one notable name is silently missing with no clear explanation coming from official sources of his whereabouts. Midfielder Innocent Wafula is yet to link up with the team with just two weeks before the country’s flag bearer to the champions league face CNAPS of Madagascar in the preliminaries.
Soka25east.com has reliability established that the player is currently in Uganda, and he is not planning to return unless certain conditions are met by the club’s management.
Wafula who has had issues with his passport and is missing in the list of names forwarded to CAF for the continental duty is said to be unhappy that Gor Mahia owes him “a lot” of money in salary and allowances. He was also irked that his October salary delayed allegedly because a lady secretary at the club disappeared with it and the Chairman did not intervene.
He is said to have changed his mobile phone numbers and he is not in touch with the club.
“He (Wafula) still has issues with Gor management. He has not been paid part of his salary and allowances. He will not talk unless all monies owed to him are paid and he is contemplating going back to Chemelil FC,” a source close to him disclosed.
Gor players were paid part of their salaries last Monday before they left for Sudan to play Al Hilal. Soka25east.com also confirmed that the said October salary was eventually payed.
The winger signed from Chemelil FC early last year on a two year contract, and still has a year left to serve Gor. He gradually worked his way into the competitive K’Ogalo first eleven becoming an integral part of the invisible 2015 squad. In the absence of left full back Abouba Sibomana he seamlessly fitted into the role.
We can also independently confirm Chemelil’s interest in the player’s services.
