Azam went to the top of the ongoing four club international tournament in Zambia on Saturday after a 3-1 win in their penultimate fixture over Zimbabwean champions Chicken Inn.
The Tanzanian league runners-up and Cecafa Club Cup holders go top of the log on 4 points from two matches at the round-robin tournament being held at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola from January 27 to February 3.
Chicken Inn are bottom of the log on 1 point after earlier drawing 1-1 with Zanaco in their opening game last Wednesday.
However, Azam rallied to victory after Nickie Muchedeyi put Chicken Inn ahead in the 27th minute.
Azam then equalized in the 31st minute through captain John Bocco to see the two sides go level into halftime.
Kipre Tchetche put Azam ahead from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute after he was brought down by Chicken Inn goalkeeper Pride Lendera.
Chicken Inn’s forgettable afternoon continued when Brian Juru gifted Azam with an own-goal in the 68th minute.
Azam are level on points with co-hosts and 2015 Super League runners-up Zanaco who beat Zambian champions Zesco 2-1 in the late kickoff at the same venue.
Second placed Zanaco and Azam will meet in the final game on February 3 with the winner in that fixture set to be crowned champions of this year’s tournament.
