By Francis Okello Ngira,
It was jubilation in Meru today (Sunday 25th May, 2014) when throngs of Tusker FC’s new fan base led by their governor Hon. Peter Munya were treated to a nicely prepared and served ‘Top8 course meal’ and just ‘one Tusker larger’ since tomorrow is a working day.
Tusker’s only goal which saw the silencing of the green army was cleverly looped into the net by the midfield general, Brian Osumba from a Clifford Alwanga pass barely a minute after the start of the second half.
Speaking after the well attended KPL Top eight knockout at match at the Kinoru stadium, the soft spoken Osumba who is also KPL 2013 season’s midfielder of the year attributed his team’s fluid midfield play to team work claiming that all they have been working on is the jelling process that has taken them a while but now they are on course for even much more better results in the second leg.
Osumba, the day’s man of the match also heaped praises on the fans for turning out in large numbers to offer them support in the tightly contested and high paced encounter claiming they were the ‘extra fuel’ behind their last two wins at their new home and urged them to double the numbers further in their next home match. <p>
The match ended with Tusker not only denying Gor Mahia three points but the crucial away goal they last got 16 years ago (12th July, 1998) when they played Mafuko Bombers F.C in a league tie at the same venue.
