Ghana international midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei netted a graceful double to power DR Congo giants TP Mazembe to annex the CAF Super Cup title ousting Tunisian side Etoile de Tunis 2-1 in Lubumbashi on Saturday afternoon.
The 27-year-old, the only Ghanaian player among the quintet in the Ravens squad for the game, steered a venomous header from a Jean Kasusula cross on the 20th minute mark before he finished off a fine move initiated by Congolese Jonathan Bolingi.
Mazembe, with French trainer Hubert Velud in charge, claimed lion’s share of possession and the pressure told on the Tunisians when Adjei directed home a header to send the Kamal City crowd into jubilation.
Velud, a former Togo coach and vastly experienced with North African clubs, deployed Adjei just behind his attacking line and his deceitful role fetched goals for the CAF Champions League title-holders.
However the home fans were thrown into a moment of anxiety when Iheb Msakni halved the deficit for the Tunisians.
But Mazembe defended like demons after the break and prevented Etoile from leveling the scoring.
