Dar es salaam giants Yanga got a double over fierce rivals Simba with an identical 2-0 win in a tense league match that saw Simba’s Abdi Banda sent off in the early quarter of the first half.
Yanga scored their first goal in the 37th minute when Zimbabwean Donald Ngoma rounded Simba keeper tapping easily as the stadium erupted in cheers.
Earlier on in the 17th minute Simba were reduced to ten men when Abdi Banda received his second yellow card.
On resumption Yanga pressed further and in the 72nd minute, Burundian Amisi Tambe extended the lead for a 2-0 victory sending the Jangwani based side to the top of the Vodacom league.
In other matches played on Saturday Chamazi based side Azam returned back to winning ways with a 1-4 away victory over Mbeya City at the Sokoine stadium in Mbeya. At the Kambarage stadium in Shinyanga homeboys Stand United beat visiting JKT Ruvu 1-0 as Mgambo JKT held Mbeya based Tanzania Prisons to a 1-1 draw. At the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza hosts Toto Africans just after their 5-1 humiliation at the hands of Mbeya forced struggling Kagera Sugar to a 1-1 draw.
