Kenyan representatives Bandari were knocked out of the ongoing CAF Confederations cup match despite a 1-1 draw with visiting St.Eloi Lupopo who beat them 1-3 on aggregate at the Nyayo National stadium in Nairobi.
Bandari becomes the second Kenyan team to be eliminated from the continental competition after Gor Mahia were knocked out by CNaPs of Madagascar in their Champions League assignment.
Speaking after the match, Bandari’s coach Twahir Muhiddin blamed wasted chances and the domestic league calendar for their elimination.
“We missed a chunk of early chances. We lost focus, the midfield was not clicking. We lost so many second balls. We were very defensive and stayed back instead of attacking,” said Muhiddin.
Makambo Maolongi capitalised on Bandari’s defensive blunder to put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute, before Edwin Lavatsa drew level from the spot after Poso Mayenhe handled in the box.
