Atlabara 2-1 Police (3-4)
Police FC booked their place in the first qualification round of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup, following their 4-3 aggregate win over South Sudan side Atlabara in the preliminary round.
The South Sudan side won the return leg 2-1 on Sunday in Juba, but Police still qualified on 4-3 aggregate. Andre Cassa Mbungo’s side won the first leg 3-1 two weeks ago in Kigali.
Sadit Ajar put the hosts ahead in the 25th minute and Juma Jackson scored Atlabara’s second goal in the 45th minute while striker Isaie Songa scored the all-important away goal for the Rwandan side in the 35th minute.
Police FC will play against Vita Club Mokanda of Congo Brazzaville in the first round after they eliminated Nigeria’s Akwa United. After the game, Cassa Mbungo said it was a great joy after winning the tough tie.
“The conditions, especially the climate was not good. It was not an easy game for us, but I am thankful that Police FC qualified to the next round,” he said
He added that the team has two weeks for the preparations for the next round match, and will correct mistakes to do much better.
Striker Dany Usengimana, central defender Fabrice Twagizimana and striker Isaie Songa scored for Police in first leg while Atlabara’s goal was scored by Khamis Leon Uso.
This is the first time Police have managed to reach the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup after their debut in 2013.
