Central defender Emery Bayisenge netted a brace of freekicks to guide APR to a 3-0 victory over Musanze on Monday evening at Kigali Regional Stadium in Nyamirambo.
The 21-year old setpiece maestro found the back of the net with a fine strike from just outside the box past Musanze’s goalkeeper Olivier Ndayisaba as the army side took the lead in the 25th minute.
APR possessed most of the ball as their style of play commands and continued to create chances in front of goal but the Musanze back four managed to keep striker Bernabe Mubumbyi at bay.
In the second half, the reigning league champions were unlucky to lose captain Albert Ngabonziza to injury but substitute Jean Claude Iranzi took over his reigns with a touch of experience and assertiveness as APR looked to kill off the game with a second goal.
The army side mounted pressure on Musanze and when Ndayisaba brought down Mubumbyi at the edge of the box in the 70th minute, the referee did not mince his actions as he sent the custodian for an early shower causing panic in the Musanze camp.
Down to ten men coach George Simwogerere replaced striker Peter Otema with second choice goalkeeper Omar Ndayisenga Rwabugiri but the new substitute could not stop Bayisenge from converting another well-taken freekick into the top roof corner to double APR’s lead.
Holding midfielder Djihad Bizimana completed the rout in the 91st minute with a brilliant finish past Rwabugiri to send APR into second place on the table standings with 30 points from 13 games and have two in hand.
Mukura Victory Sport sit in top spot with 32 points from 15 games while AS Kigali are third with 28 points from 13 games.
