Tanzanian giants Yanga have arrived in Kigali ahead of their first leg Caf Champions League tie against Rwandan league champions APRon March 12 at Amahoro Stadium.
Rwanda captain Haruna Niyonzima, who has recovered from a knee injury recently, is part of the 20-man squad that will be looking to post a positive result ahead of the return leg on the weekend of March 18-20 in Dar es Salaam.
Niyonzima featured in Yanga’s emphatic 5-0 win over African Sports on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam and head coach Hans Van Der Pluijm believes he will be ready for the highly anticipated game on Saturday.
“I know a little bit about APR and how they play. It will have a positive impact that we won against African Sports. If you have a good run in the league and you are on top then everyone is confident but you have to translate that to the next game in an international game and in an away game,” said the optimistic Pluijm.
Yanga settled for a 2-2 draw against Azam on Saturday and Pluijm said, “After Saturday, it was a very tough match and then we had to play again on Tuesday. I was not just happy with the result but the way we played. The performance and sometimes for a coach the five goals.”
“I do not feel any pressure. We are going to play here in Kigali and we are trying to get a good result and that the players are confident.”
Yanga will train at the Ferwafa Ground on Wednesday afternoon and will have a feel of the venue on Friday afternoon as per the rules.
