Zesco United coach George Lwandamina is determined to end the clubs’ five-year jinx against West African opposition in Caf club competition.
The Zambian side will this month face Horoya of Guinea in the first round of the 2016 Champions League.
Zesco will host Horoya on March 12 in a first leg fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The Zambian champions have tumbled three times to West African opposition in continental competition since qualifying in the group stage of the 2009 Champions League in what was the first time a Zambian club had made it to the league phase of the competition.
“You go into these jobs to better your living. So we are not exceptional and that is why we are in these jobs. It’s to improve and we have to improve all the time,” Lwandamina said in philosophical fashion.
Last year, Zesco fell 5-4 on post-match penalties to Guinea club AS Kaloum at the same stage in the Champions League after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.
In 2014, Zesco were eliminated from the second round of the 2014 Confederation Cup by Medeama of Ghana.
Earlier, Warri Wolves of Nigeria eliminated them from the last 16 of the 2010 Confederation Cup 3-2 on aggregate.
