Liberia’s Lone Star made it a double over Djibouti in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 qualifiers with a 5-0 obliteration of the Shore-men of the Red Sea in Monrovia on Tuesday 29.
Anthony Laffor penalty in the 8th minute opened the floodgates, and goals never stopped pouring in thereafter. Sam Johnson doubled the lead in the 27th minute for a 2-0 half time score.
On resumption, William Jebor made it 3-0 in the 46th minute stretching the lead beyond the Horn of Africa nation. Jebor was not done yet and three minutes later he grabbed a brace before making it a hat trick within the four minutes of added time.
With Togo and Tunisia settling for a barren draw in the other group “A” match of the day, Liberia can breathe easy till June as they top the group with 9 points, two behind Togo and Tunisia.
Liberia next play Togo in June at home, while Djibouti will host Tunisia then. The qualifiers will conclude in September.
