Kenyan government assures Harambee Starlets support for AWCON preparations

Harambee Starlets can rest easy as they start planning for their first ever appearance at a continental tournament, having seen off Algeria to book a slot for the 10th African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament to be held in Cameroon.

Among the dignitaries who watched as the national team held Algeria to a 1 – 1 draw to book their slot was the Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario who afterwards lauded the team, coaches and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for creating a conducive environment for the team to do well.

The government too has played a key role so far with the national teams and Wario assured the team of more support in the preparation for the tournament, and while at the tournament too.

“I want to first congratulate the girls for their historic achievement and of course laud the coaches and federation for doing a great job with them. They are now facing another huge task in terms of preparation for the tournament and competing at the tournament itself.

“From our side as the government, we assure to do all possible to help the team prepare well because they will be representing the country. We want the girls to have all the support they require so they can deliver there,” he said.
