The second round of the national league starts today, with defending champions APR FC looking to get maximum points against struggling Etincelles at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Head coach Nizar Khanfir’s side moved top of the league table for the first time this season, on the final day of the first round after defeating AS Kigali 3-1 ten days ago.
The army side is looking to getting a record-extending 16th league title in 22 years. The club has 34 points, having won ten, drawn four and lost one at the halfway stage of the campaign.
Etincelles is second from bottom with 7 points, but head coach Innocent Seninga believes his team can still get out of the danger zone.
“We want to start winning matches so that we can move away from the relegation danger. We still have chance, but we need to work harder in the second round than we did in the first 15 matches,” he admitted.
Rayon Sports is in second position with 32 points, same as Mukura Victory Sports but the 2013 league champions have scored seven more goals than Godfroid Okoko’s team in 15 matches. AS Muhanga remains bottom of the standings with four points in 15 matches.
