Kenyan Premier league week 9 was a close affair with the Hooliganism rearing its ugly head once more as Gor Mahia caused the stoppage of their match for over 15 minutes protesting a penalty away to Tusker then after the match the running battles outside the stadium did not help the situation.

However on a more positive note there were bug surprises with Sony Sugar winning their first match of the season,while Sofapaka went deeper into relegation zone with yet another loss.

Tusker inflicted the second loss of the season to league defending champions Gor Mahia at Nyayo, Bandari rescued a draw against Posta Rangers in Mombasa, Muhoroni Youth and Western Stima settled to a barren draw as Sony sugar recorded their first win this term in Saturday’s matches.

AFC Leopards needed a penalty to rescue a draw against Ushuru, clinical Mathare United scored twice to silence Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka misery continued as James Nandwa’s Thika United notched up their second consecutive win in Sunday’s matches.

Tusker 1-0 Gor Mahia (Nyayo Stadium, 3pm)

A contested penalty enabled Tusker inflict the second loss of the season to Gor Mahia, and coach Marcelo Ferreira’s first defeat in the league.

The match appeared destined for a barren draw before the referee called for a penalty following an infraction inside the Gor danger area that was hotly disputed. Play was stopped for several minutes as the Green Army on the Nyayo stands let their feelings known.

When normalcy was restored, up stepped international capped midfielder Humphrey Mieno to sent Gor goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch the wrong way and extend Tusker’s impressive unbeaten run as they held on to their top position on league table.

Sony Sugar 1-0 Chemelil Sugar (Awendo, 3pm)

Justin Monda was the hero of Sony Sugar with a well directed free moments to the half time break to hand his club their first win of the season.

Muhoroni Youth 0-0 Western Stima (Muhoroni, 3pm)

League top scorer Wycliffe Ochomo had a whiff of goal but this was not going to be this day for the in-form striker.

Kennedy Rono and Bebeto Lwamba also had chances to score for the home side.

Bandari 1-1 Posta Rangers (Mbaraki Sports Club)

Posta Rangers stunned the hosts with the opening goal in the 46th minute through club faithful Joseph Nyaga. Bandari hit back on 65 minutes through former Gor Mahia and Mathare United forward Edwin Lavatsa.

Ushuru 1-1 AFC Leopards (Nyayo Stadium)

The balanced match came to life in the second half as Ushuru stunned the confident Big Cats on 60 minutes when lanky defender Philemon Otieno fired past reliable Ingwe goalkeeper Lucas Indeche.

Otieno however turned villain 11 minutes later, handling the ball inside the box, prompting the referee to call for a penalty.

Former Thika United and Bandari striker Kepha Aswani took up the responsibility to send Ushuru custodian Shabaan Odhoji the wrong way for his fourth goal of the season.

Ulinzi Stars 0-2 Mathare United (Afraha Stadium)

It was tough outing for the title hungry soldiers as they let in the most goals by them this season. The Slum Boys on the other hand reclaimed the league leadership with this goal haul.

George Owino headed home Noah Abich’s free kick to open the scores for Mathare midway through the second leg before Eric Johanna doubled the insurance minutes later. This was Mathare’s third win on the trot and without conceding a goal.

Thika United 1-0 City Stars (Thika Stadium)

Thika United coach James Nandwa must be having some Midas touch of sorts as he guided his new side to their second win in a row.

Timothy Luda’s strike two minutes after the restart was all the difference in this tightly fought affair.

Sofapaka 1-2 Kakamega Homeboyz (Kenyatta Stadium)

Captain Wycliffe Opondo gave Sofapaka the lead early in the second half after taking advantage of a defensive mix-up in the Homeboyz danger area.

But the poor run by the 2009 champions played out, as first, Gerard Bagoole slid in an own goal in an attempt to clear a dangerous shot from Homeboyz’s defender Athman Buki, before Jeremiah Wanjala connected with a Moses Mudavadi cross to give the promoted Kakamega side their second consecutive win.
