Azam football club today reached the final of the Federations cup after edging out a determined Mwadui Fc on post match penalties in a match played at the Mwadui Sports complex in Shinyanga, Tanzania.
After a draw of 1-1 after normal and regulation time, the match headed to the extra time where Azam took the lead courtesy of Khamis Mcha Before the hosts restored parity with eight minutes before the final whistle.
In the extra time Azam Khamis Mcha extended the lead in the 97th minute and when it looks like the ice cream makers were winning it, the hosts equalized at the death for the resultant penalty shoot out.
In the ensuing penalties, Azam connected all their penalties with the winning penalty scored by Aggrey Morris who scored the winning penalty, captain John Bosco, Kenyan international Allan Wanga, and Waziri Salum. Mwadui had Kevin Sabato miss his spot kick with Malika Ndeule and Iddi Moby scoring
The other semi final match between Yanga and Coastal Union that was stopped in the 110 minute after Coastal Union fans interrupted the match after they Alleged Amisi Tambwe scored using his hands . the coastal Union fans attacked the match officials.
This was the extra time after both teams settled for a 1-1 draw. Shinyanga based referree Abdalla Kambuzi decided to blow his final whistle at the 110 minute. After the match the match commissioners report decided that truly Yanga deserves a final berth blaming the coastal Union fans for the interruption. Match commissioner Osuri Kosuri from Simiyu said they decided to stop the match following crowd trouble saying there was little security in the stadium and the policemen were overwhelmed. The match was played at the Mkwakwani stadium.
Yanga will now meet Azam in the final match to be played in May with the winner representing the country in the CAF Confederation cup next year.
