Former Chipolopolo Coach and Current FAZ Technical Director Honor Janza has called for a youth League. This is according to the post Newspaper article dated 25 April 2016 by Nelson Kazeze.
LACK of an established youth league is hindering the
development of technical ability among our footballers, says FAZ technical director Honour Janza.
In an interview, Janza said revamping youth soccer development programmes was the only solution to improving the technical ability among footballers.
He said most players did not understand the basics of soccer because they had not been nurtured at a tender age. Janza added that most Zambian players were ‘half-baked’ because they had been rushed into tactical training.
“We do not have an established youth league that can monitor the progress of our young talented players. We find ourselves rushing players into playing competitive soccer because they have the talent but we do not assess their development from a tender age,” he said.
Janza said the current structures of both the Super League and lower divisions did not provide youth development programmes to enhance technical skills.
He said most clubs had no youth setups and most junior players were not active.
“Our clubs have not embraced youth academies
but that is where the pool of the talented player can be traced from. And in case where a team has a junior side, the players are dormant because they do not play week-in week-out. “Janza said.
Janza said there was need to use qualified personnel to monitor and train young players to enhance their technical skills.
