They might be long gone,but Africa’s memories about them are stil fresh.Zambians today commemorate the biggest tragedy in the country’s football history pages-The 1993 Gabon air disaster.
Ugandan cranes Coach and African football enthusiastic Micho joined the Zambian people in commemorating the disaster and offered solidarity to that country’s football fraternity.
“May the souls rest in peace.Everyone who loves football in Africa should remember this great team that was denied the sky it was destined.I therefore join tbe Zambian people in commemorating tbe 1993 Gabon Air disaster”,Micho posted.
The Serbian coach was responding to the post by soka25east writer James Sibeleki regarding the event in a mature Whatsapp group African football Arena created by Supersport.com Jounalist Collins Okinyo.
The other prominent Football guru who remembers the tragedy is Simba Soccer Magazine pundit Anold Kanyangonda.The Kenyan knowledgable pundit said he still remembers the disaster like yesterday.
27th April,2016 marks 23 years since the Airplane carrying the Zambian national team players,FA members and Jounalists clashed in Gabon.This was a team that lost the 1974 AFCON final to Zaire,beat Italy 4-0 during the 1988 Seoul Olympics Games and was on the verge of qualifying to the World Cup.
