Kenyan premier league defending champions Gor Mahia lost their second game in a row at the ongoing Cecafa Kagame cup losing 1-0 to Burundi’s Atletico.
Alexis Hakizimana scored the all important goal and the first for Atletico in the 2014 tournament collecting a sublime pass close to the box before firing past a hapless Fredrick Onyango in the 72nd minute to the applause of many at the Nyamirambo Stadium.
Gor Mahia lost several chances in the first half as youngster Timothy Otieno failed to go past the tight Atletico defence .In the 26th minute a beautiful Kariuki lob hit the woodwork as Atletico keeper Hemedi Kandolo remained routed at the same spot.
Gor Mahia continued with their wave after wave of attack and in the 29th minute Atletico survived another scare after Timothy Otieno collected a lose ball before placing a low pass that was met by Dan Sserenkuma but his resultant shot was blocked by both the defenders and keeper Kandolo.
Fighting to get an early goal Baba Kizito’s sublime pass was met by Sserunkuma who displaced a defender but a steady Hemedi Kandolo blocked his short in the 43rd minute.
Gor Mahia Baba Kizito also asked questions on Keeper Kandolo with a ferocious shot in the 45th minute that the keeper blocked back to play saving his side the blushes.
Atletico came back in the second half more rejuvenated and looked better placed that their opponents Gor Mahia who lost easy balls with keeper Fredrick Onyango doing the bulk of the work trying to keep off the marauding Atletico strikers who remained relentless leading to their goal that caught the Kogalo defence napping as Jerim kept a respectable and descent scoreline despite the wave of attack from Atletico.
The loss being the second for Gor Mahia means they must win against APR Gor
