A contestable Jacques Tuyisenge’s second half goal booked defending champions Gor Mahia the fourth semi final spot in the on going Kenyan Premier League Top 8 Knockout Tournament at Nyayo Stadium on Monday 2.
The two times winners have now made it to every semi final of Top 8 since the first edition in 2011 and for the umpteenth time they will be facing arch rivals Tusker FC in the stage.
The first stanza was majorly decided in the middle of pack with both sides trying to size each other up, four chances on goal however stood out; three to K’Ogalo and one to the taxmen.
Wafula ran out of ideas with just keeper to beat in the 14th minute, instead banging the ball on advancing Jerry Onyango to waste the most obvious chance for Ushuru.
On the other end Tuyisenge Jacques and George Odhiambo were no better, wasting free headers with the defense caught flat footed. Uganda international Khalid Aucho was then denied by the cross bar from a sublime free kick just outside the penalty area.
Not much changed in the second stanza with Ushuru sticking to their defense game, until a minute to the hour mark when Jacques Tuyisenge altered the scoreline in Gor’s advantage.
The Rwandan captain fired past Ushuru keeper Shaban Odhoji from what appeared to be an offside position but the goal stood despite wild protests from Ushuru players and technical bench.
Tuyisenge had a couple of more opportunities to change the scoreline further but on both occasions he was marginally off the mark.
The taxmen picked up the pieces and ventured forward in search of the equalizer which Aziz Okaka should have gotten in the 67th minute, but his thunderbolt hit the woodwork.Roosevelt Blaty was then ruled offside with only Jerry to beat.
