Mighty Yanga SC of Tanzania grabbed their third title of the season with a 3-1 annihilation of rivals Azam FC in the final of Azam Sports Federation Cup at the National Stadium on Wednesday.
It was a culmination of a splendid season for Yanga who also managed to defend their league title a couple of weeks back, with Azam coming second. Azam also played second fiddle to the Dar es Salaam based bigwigs in the Community Shield losing 8-7 (via penalties) in August 2015.
The 24 times Tanzania champions are also the only East Africa team through to the group phase of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup.
Burundi national Amissi Tambwe scored abrace with Deus Kaseke adding another to secure Yanga Tanzania’s equavalent of England’s FA Cup.
Another Burundian Didier Kavumbagu netted the Azam’s only goal.
Even as Yanga fans celebrate a wonderful season, rival fans of Simba and Yanga will be left licking their wounds after a disappointing season which bore no fruits.
The Ice Cream makers have already parted ways with their long serving coach Stewart Hall, a clear sign that they didn’t hit their targets; remains to be seen how Simba on the other hand will respond to the barren season.
