For the fifth consecutive time, St. George FC’s shot stopper Robert Odongkara has bagged the golden glove award in the just ended Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) 2016 season.
Robert’s teammate Aschalew Tamene was voted the most valuable player (MVP) by a panel of respected Ethiopian journalists who cover the top league.
During the successful season, which saw Kidus Giorgis secure their 13th crown, Robert, a Ugandan international kept 16 clean sheets, 8 consecutively, in 26 matches to assert his authority as the best in the Ethiopian top flight football.
The 27 years, former URA and SC Villa keeper seems to be following in the footsteps of his fellow country man and Uganda Cranes first choice keeper Dennis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns who was also voted the best in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League this year.
For his efforts, the lanky keeper walked home with 15,000 Birr while Tamene pocketed 25,000 Birr.
Tafesse Tesfaye of Adama Kenema ren away with the golden boot accolade after shaking the net 15 goals – he was also awarded with 25,000 Birr.
