Dashen Beer and Hadiya Hossana have relinquished their top flight football status after being relegated in 2016 Ethiopian Premier League.
Addis bigwigs Kidus Giorgis bagged the crown thrice on the trot for a record 13th title.
Moneybags Dashen Beer despite investing heavily in the squad, struggled all their campaign and could only afford a second last finish on 28 points in the 14-team league.
The beer makers won just seven matches, lost ten and drew a similar number (10).
Hadiya were the whipping boys of the league, losing 21 fixtures, drawing five times and winning just once as they finished rock bottom – with a paltry 8 points.
Strength of a Woman
The only top league club coached by a woman in Africa Dire Dawa managed to survive the chop on their maiden EPL appearance.
Meseret Mane’s charges finished two places above the relegation zone with 30 points from 8 wins and 6 draws.
Four teams from group A and B making the Ethiopian Higher League will be promoted next season to form an expanded 16-team EPL.
With eight rounds of matches to go, Weldia and Fasil Kenema are currently on pole position to earn promotion in group “A” as they top the zone with 47 and 45 points respectively.
From group “B” Jimma Aba Buna and Addis Ababa Kenema are dominating the top two positions with 48 and 44 points in that order.
