Zesco United recovered from 2-0 CAF Champions League loss to Wydad Casablanca with a well crafted victory over Red Arrows by a similar margin in a rescheduled league match on Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola.

Two goals in each stanza from Jackson Mwanza and Kenyan international Jackson Were secured the win and a move to second spot on the Zambian Super League (ZSL) standings on 31 points same as Nkana who have an inferior goal difference.

Arrows remain rooted at 11th position with 20 points.

Were put through Mwanza with a sumptuous cross which the latter heading on target for the opener two minutes past the quarter hour mark.

Minutes into the second half, Were put his name on the score sheet from close range firing past hapless Arrows keeper for his 11th league goal.

The former Tusker FC striker resumes the lead as the league top scorer with two goals better than closest challenger Walter Bwalya of leaders Zanaco as the golden boot chase takes shape.

The Coach George Lwandamina’s outfit, with three games at hand returns to Mwanawasa on Saturday for another rescheduled match against Green Buffaloes.

Maximum points from the pending games will take them level with Zanaco on 41 points.
