Ever since Leicester City won the English premier League, every promoted side to the super league of every nation in the world thinks they can also defy the odd’s and repeat Leicester’s impossible dream which was possible after all.
The Zambian premier league is no different. At the start of the season Lusaka Tigers was labeled Leicester City of Zambia and rightfully so, the team came with a lot of fire and the zeal to prove a point. Maybe they just tried to do the impossible a little bit too hard and ended up costing themselves.
At week 7 they had won two games drawn three and only lost two and were 7th on the log. At week 10 they drifted 3 places below into 10th position with 12 points [2 wins 6 draws and 2 losses]. At this point the dream was still within reach given the fact that among the teams they drew with were Nkana and Zesco United the “usual” title contenders.
Fast Forward to week 18, They have only managed to win one game from 8 ,drawing two and losing the other 5 games including last weekends disappointing away loss to Nchanga Rangers which left them on 17 position .Giving them a overall performance of 3 wins,8 draws. And 7 losses. Next up for the Lusaka based club is the log leaders and most lethal team in the league Zanaco.
From fighting for the title to fighting relegation ,that has been the sad story of Lusaka Tigers. However the Matero based out-fit’s fate is still in their own hands as only one point separates them and 14th placed Lusaka Dynamos and only 3 points between them and 12th placed Nakambala Leopards.
