Only one match, Melta Kaberia versus Jericho All Stars will be on display on Saturday 30 as Sportpesa Super 8 Premier enters week 23.
Jericho will be angling to move six points clear at the top of the table standings with a win over unpredictable Melta. Going by their recent bullish form, the Makadara side is well poised to achieve the feat.
The chasing pack of Kayole Asubuhi and Shauri Moyo Blue Stars will be in action a day later on Sunday keen not to drop any further.
MELTA KABIRIA FC VS JERICHO ALL STARS (3PM)
League commanding boys Jericho All Stars will be out to cement their place at the helm of the table standings when they travel to seventh-placed Melta Kabiria’s home ground at Kawangware BP.
The Coach Thomas Okongo’s boys went three points clear of Kayole Asubuhi with 46 points after emerging with a 3-2 victory over Diguna FC last weekend. The East conference team will be looking for nothing less than the three points as the title is now on sight with less than eight matches remaining.
At the same time, improved Melta Kabiria who have won two of their previous matches are confident of stopping the East conference bigwigs especially after being punished 4-1 in the first stanza.
Shadrack Ateka’s coached Melta beat Kawangware 2-1 over the weekend and before that they trounced Baba Dogo 3-1.
SUNDAY MATCHES
SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS VS KIAMAIKO CITY (3PM)
After picking a single point in their previous encounter against Baba Dogo United in a one all draw, third-placed Shauri Moyo Blue Stars will be hungry for the maximum points when they take on Kiamaiko City at Nyayo National Stadium.
Blue Stars who are led by Ken Odera, are currently doing well in the competition having raked up 40 points so far. They are enjoying a three match unbeaten streak heading into this weekend’s fixture in which they are pre-match favorites. They shall be playing the citizens who found the going tough after settling for a barren draw with Kabete United last Saturday leaving them 12th with 27 points.
METRO SPORTS VS KAWANGWARE UNITED (3PM)
In another match, all eyes will be fixed on the current leading top scorer and Kawangware United’s player-coach Francis Thairu who is expected to lead his charges against fifth-placed Metro Sports at Drive-Inn grounds.
Thairu is leading the charts with 18 goals under his belt in the competition. However, the towering forward has faltered when it mattered most with a recent 2-1 defeat to arch rivals Melta Kabiria in the Dagoretti derby that marked his third match without hitting the mark.
Kawangware who sit 13th with 26 points will hoping the experienced marksman breaks the jinx and return to his scoring spirit to lift them against the Sportsmen who are ranked 5th with 37 points.
But Metro seeks to register a double over the visitors whom they overpowered 1-0 when they clashed in the first leg.
SHAMAKO BABES VS MASA (1PM)
For a double header treat at Kabete grounds, basement side Shamako Babes entertains MASA for the opening match where the home team are desperate for a win in the competition.
After being handed easy three points and two goals last week following a walk-over dished out by Kayole Youth who exited the league earlier on, West conference side Shamako who are facing relegation at the bottom of the chart with 8 points have a mountain to climb against MASA.
The Makongeni side demolished Shamako 5-2 in the first leg and will be seeking for complete record against the minnows for a chance to close in on the top five as they sit 8th with 32 points.
KABETE UNITED VS KAYOLE ASUBUHI (3PM)
In another match at the same venue, Kabete United takes on a plucky Kayole Asubuhi in what is anticipated to be an entertaining match.
Visiting Asubuhi are playing catch up with leaders Jericho where they are trailing 3 points on second position in the 16-team chart with 43 points. A win will be helpful for the East conference team especially as the title chase hots up.
However, Kabete who are placed 9th with 31 points will be looking to put behind their first leg 3-1 thumping by the Kayole outfit and bag the three points.
DIGUNA FC VS BABA DOGO UNITED (3PM)
At Nakeel grounds, Diguna FC will face off with East conference’s Baba Dogo United aiming to overturn 2-1 defeat by the visitors in the opening leg.
Diguna are placed 11th with 29 points and are desperate for a win as they are looking to join the top ten slots while Baba are slumping at 14th with 18 points.
TUK FACE KIAMBIU IN 23RD ROUND
Following a one all draw in the first leg, West conference leaders TUK will take their title charge to Kiambiu Youth on Sunday 31 July at Camp Toyoyo hoping to clear their path to the top three bracket as the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League enters round 23.
A simmering rivalry is brewing between both sides after Kiambiu forced a point out of the university students earlier on and this time round stakes are high as each club is aiming for maximum points with less than seven rounds to go.
The students are sitting fourth with 39 points and are eager to hit the road running with the top spot a touching distant away while Kiambiu are nine points below at 10th and will be hoping to upset the visiting side for chance to slide down to the top eight on the log.
It will be a tricky affair and each side will need to put their best foot forward in order bag all the points amid the escalating tension in the competition so far.
