Kabwe Warriors defensive kingpin Marcel Kalonda is attending trials at South African Premier League side Supersport United.
According to the Kabwe Warriors official club website, Kalonda left for South Africa on Sunday 31st July 2016 and has since joined SuperSport’s preseason camp in Mpumalanga, where he underwent a medical on Tuesday.
The Congolese defender has been attracting interest from top Premier League sides in Zambia but Kabwe Warriors came out to dash any hope of a possible domestic transfer as the club hierarchy said he won’t be sold to a local club.
The player was believed to have been courted by Power Dynamos but Warriors rejected any advances from the Kitwe giants.
Kalonda has been influencial for Warriors in defense this season including his recent goal against Lusaka Dynamos in a 1-0 win at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium.
If Supersport capture his signature, they will be signing more than just a defender. Kalonda is good in the air and is quite deadly when it comes to long throws.
He is also one of the most gifted defenders in terms of skill and is regarded as the best defender in the Zambia Super League at the moment.
