Michael “Engineer” Olunga rediscovered his scoring mojo with a brace in Djurgardens IF’s 3-1 thumping of IFK Gotenborg in a league match on Monday night at Tele2 Arena.

Prior to the match, which was Coach Mark Dempsey’s first in-charge, the mercurial Kenyan international had endured 14-match goal drought under Pelle Olsson who has since parted ways with the club.

Tom Pettersson gave the visitors the lead in the 24th minute, but Olunga restored order four minutes later. Mathieu Renegie then put the hosts ahead for the first time in the match in a minute after restart for a 2-1 half time scoreline.

Olunga completed the match of the match performance with a brace in the 65th minute, intercepting a misplaced back pass, side stepping advancing keeper, before burying into an open net to seal the sweet victory.

The 22-year old’s renewed form is certainly a good news for the national team Harambee Stars ahead of two upcoming matches; against Uganda Cranes in a warm-up on August 31 before traveling to Zambia to face Chipolopolo in the last round of AFCON 2017 qualifiers on September 3.

Djurgardens lie in the relegation play off zone with 18 points from 17 matches. They next face seventh placed Elfsborg at home on Sunday.
