Azam FC are the 2016/17 Community Shield Champions after edging city rivals Yanga SC 4-1 on post match penalty shootout.

Yanga looked set to bag the season curtain raiser twice on the bounce after taking a deserved 2-0 half time lead at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam,but the Ice Cream makers came back rejuvenated managing to successfully turn tables on them.

Zimbabwe international Donald Ngoma put Yanga on the driving seat in the 20th from the spot, before Amissi Tambwe added the second four minutes later to give the Coach Hans Van de Pluijm’s side a 2-0 lead into the breather.

Shamori Kapombe began the turnaround for the moneybags on the 75th minute, cutting the lead by one goal, before skipper John Bocco restored order via penalty for a 2-2 final scoreline,

Azam managed to convert four penalties with Yanga burying just one.

Hassan Kessy and Niyonzima Haruna all failed for Yanga except goalkeeper Diogratious Minushi.

On Azam side; Bocco, Himid Mao, Kapombe na Kipre Balou were all successful.
