League leaders Jericho All Stars and title contenders Shauri Moyo Blue Stars romped to victories in their corresponding round of 26 fixtures in the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League on Saturday 20 August at Camp Toyoyo grounds.
Jericho eased to a resounding 4-0 triumph over Kawangware United to stretch their stay atop while Shauri Moyo beat visiting Metro Sports 2-1 in the other match to set a tense atmosphere in the league as the road to the Ksh 1M cash prize and league crown climaxes with four rounds of matches remaining.
And in the other results of the weekend, defending champions TUK, MASA and Melta Kabiria all bagged the three points in the respective fixtures in matches played on Sunday 21 August.
TUK humiliates Diguna FC
Champions TUK moved to second on the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League table standing after storming to a 4-0 return leg victory over Diguna FC in a one sided encounter staged at Nakeel grounds in Rongai. With the three invaluable points the defending champions now have 51 points, two adrift of leaders Jericho All Stars and three more than Kayole Asubuhi who are relegated to third spot but have a game at hand.
After a scoreless first half, Kevin Okomo’s 49th minute strike gave the university students the opener before golden boot contender Jeconiah Uyoga doubled the scores seven minutes later for a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Diguna could match up to TUK’s fast pace and were punished by Nicholas Otieno and Lawarence Agina who netted a goal apiece on the 65th and 71st respectively for the Francis Oduor led team to grab the three points keeping them on a distinctive bearing of capturing the league trophy.
The disappointing home defeat for the Stephen Wasiliwa’s charges sees them stay put at 9th position with 36 points.
Ajax draws blanks against Kabete United
At the same venue, Ajax played to a scoreless stalemate with visiting Kabete United in the second match of the day.
It means that with the point, Ajax displaces Metro FC from 5th spot where they now sit with 42 points as Kabete moves a spot up to 12th with 31 points.
MASA thump Kiamaiko City
In another match, Kiamaiko City’s misery in the competition sunk a new low after being walloped 4-2 by MASA at Makongeni grounds.
Kiamaiko who are battling to stay in league next year in the West conference were punished by early strikes from Dennis Odida who opened the score sheet after 20 minutes as his team mate Moses Oduor added the second for MASA soon after restart for the Hassan Andale’s boys to command the first half.
Moses Mweu then made it 3-0 at the stroke of half time as the Makongeni based outfit eased to a first half lead that lasted until the opening moments of the second stanza when Kiamako who got their first goal through James Oduor in the 55th minute.
It was Robert Adede who gave MASA the insurance goal in the 74th minute but his side had to stay firm to deny a late surge by Kiamako who diluted the scores with a late finish by Ntagi Ntagi who ensured the match ended 4-2 in favor of the home team.
MASA take their point tally to 41 points at 7th position on the standings as Kiamaiko will have to continue with the relegation war at 13th with 30 points.
Shamako Babes drowned by Melta Kabiria
Strikes from Victor Wanga and Daniel Ayoyi in either halves gave Melta Kabiria all the three points of the match to condemn Shamako Babes to another devastating loss.
Wanga put Melta in control with a superb finish four minutes before the first half break with Ayoyi swept home the second early in the second stanza to hand Shadrack Ateka led side the maximum points that takes take their point haul to 40 at position 8.
James Mwathi scored the consolation goal for the West conference underdogs who now are facing relegation at the bottom of the league standings with 12 points.
JERICHO ALL STARS 4-0 KAWANGWARE UNITED
Leaders Jericho All Stars went four points clear at the summit of the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League table standings after disciplining Kawangware United 4-0 with ruthlessness at a packed Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho estate.
Composure and clinical finish by the Thomas Okongo led team completely outwitted the West conference team as first half goals from Kevin Oreso (4th min), Oneal Omondi (8’) and Eddie Kuria (25’) gave Jericho a comfortable 3-0 lead by half time.
After the break, Kawangware’s effort for an equalizer hit the wall and they were punished in the 75th minute when Brian Kasasi sealed the victory for the home team who now have 53 points at the top of the standings ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.
Kawangware’s leading scorers and leagues top scorer at the moment Francis Thairu failed to hit the mark meaning his side retain 10th position on the grid with 33 points.
SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS 2-1 METRO SPORTS
Earlier on at the same venue, Shauri Moyo Blue Stars took the spoils after defeating Metro Sports 2-1 in a lunchtime kick-off.
After beating Metro 1-0 in the first leg, the home club outclassed their opponents in the match as Jacob Ocholla’s Shauri Moyo keep alive their dream of sweeping the league trophy as they retain fourth spot with an improved 46 points ahead of Sunday’s matches as Metro remains stagnant at fifth position with 41 points.
Gerrad Idris scored the opener for Shauri Moyo in the 42nd minute as his side went into the break with a 1-0 lead before his team mate Memy Mohammed added the second goal with six minutes remaining on the clock. Metro top scorer Peter Ambetsa scored the consolation goal for his side in added time.
