Zesco United of Zambia will play fellow Southern Africans Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the semi-finals of the 2016 CAF Champions League after finishing second in group “A”

“Team ya Ziko” settled for a 1-1 draw in their last group phase fixture against visiting Wydad Casablanca at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola to take the second spot in the group on 9 points, two off the Morocco heavyweights and pair the “Masandawana” in the last four.

The Coach George Lwandamina’s outfit were top of their game in the first stanza and took a deserved lead through Kenyan international defender David Owino’s header off a corner kick a minute to the quarter hour mark – an advantage they took to the dressing room.

In the second half, the John Tosheck’s well oiled machine turned on the heat, with a superbly coordinated attack spearheaded by Chisum Chikatara and Fabrice Ondama.

The “Kola nut boy” Chikatara delivered a beauty of an equalizer in the 56th minute from a long range effort, beating Zesco keeper Jacob Banda on the top left corner.

The single point was enough to ensure Waydad finish top of group “A”. They will play group “B” runner up Zamalek SC of Egypt in an all North Africans semi-final.
