Report from DR Congo indicates the home ground of African champions TP Mazembe, Stade TP Mazembe is facing government closure over tax related issues.

According to rdcfoot.com sources within DR Congo intelligence services reveal this could happen within a matter of weeks, due to allegations that during its construction, Mazembe owner Moise Katumbi was not cleared on taxes paid on materials used in the multimillion project.

The 18,000 sitting capacity facility located in the Kamalondo suburb of Lubumbashi was completed in 2011 after renovations work on site of old stadium Mwanke in April 2010.

The latest development could be viewed from some quarters as yet another move by DR Congo President Joseph Kabila, to frustrate Katumbi’s presidential ambitions – the 51-year old business mogul is the main opposition presidential candidate in the November elections after receiving backing of seven political parties.

In June, he was sentenced to 36 months in prison in absentia for illegally selling a property in Lubumbashi belonging to a Greek citizen; he was also fined $6M for the charge widely viewed as politically motivated.

Kabila is required by constitution to stand down after completion of his two term mandate by December, however, he is being accused of plotting to stay longer.
