AFC Leopards have sacked Head Coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert for poor performance. The Belgian who joined the 13-times Kenyan Premier League champions from Rwanda side Rayon Sports in March has lately found the going tough despite starting on a high and taking the club to the summit of the log at one point.

His termination letter obtained by Soka25east.com read partly as follows;

“The club’s fans and members having raised concerns about the current status of the team, we as the executive did give you a chance to be heard by the National Executive Committee on issues regarding continued undesirable results, serious and persistent misconduct by yourself,”

“The National Executive having heard you and in view of the undesirable results that the team continued to post, we have been left with no alternative but to terminate your contract as per clause 7(b) and 7(c) of the employment contract signed by yourself as head Coach.”

Leopards perched 10th on the log with 29 points from 23 matches, has endured a rough patch that was highlighted by a 3-0 thumping in the hands of Western Stima in the league cup last week, before, the “Ingwe” received a 4-1 thumping by Kakamega Homeboyz in the league.

Ivan has however indicated he will seek legal redress for wrongful dismissal; “I will consult my lawyer because I don’t think the action was justifiable since I was achieveing my targets. My first mandate was to avoid relegation and we are well off the danger zone.” Ivan said.

Assistant Coach Ezekiel Akwana ascends to the top seat on an interim basis; it remains unclear if the management will shop for another foreign tactician.
