AL Merreikh on Sunday won their 25th Sudan Cup title and the third in a row in recent times with a 3-1 defeat of Omdurman arch rivals Al Hilal at the Khartoum Stadium.
Al Merreikh maintained an unbroken streak since lifting their 22nd title in 2012. The giant club, thus, now holds the Sudan League and Cup title as well as the Cecafa [Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations] Kagame Cup Club Championship.
Four points
Although with a match in hand, Al Merreikh trail Al Hilal by four points in the race for the 2014 League title. With two matches to go, Al Hilal are on top of the table with 61 points.
Kenya’s ace striker Allan Wanga and Uganda rising young goalie Jamal Salim Magoola are key men in the current Al Merreikh squad.
