Kayole Asubuhi assumed pole position in the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League after beating Jericho All Stars 1-0 in a nerve-wrecking encounter on Sunday 4 September staged at a packed City Stadium, Nairobi.

Brian Ochieng’ scored the all-important goal in the 19th minute to dislodge TUK at the top spot where they now sit with 58 points while Jericho’s title chase is now a subject of mathematical conundrum as they drop to 3rd with 56 points.

 

SHAURI MOYO BLUE STARS 2-1 DIGUNA FC

Earlier on at the same venue, Shauri Moyo Blue Stars edged visiting Diguna 2-1 in a lunchtime kick-off.

After a goal-less first period, Gerald Idris broke the deadlock in the 70th minute before Rahim Malik made it 2-0 with just seven minutes remaining on the clock to steer the East conference club to the victory making sure they retain fourth position with an improved 52 points.

But Diguna were lucky enough to get a goal courtesy of a goal mouth melee that resulted to an own goal after Shauri Moyo’s captain scored in his own net at the dying minutes of the game. The outcome means Diguna stagnate at 10th with 36 points.

 

KABETE UNITED 1-2 MELTAH KABIRIA

In the first match of the day, Melta Kabiria gathered the three points of the match after seeing off Kabete United 2-1.

First half goals from Hassan Kamau and Sammy Egesa in the 12th and 34th minute respectively did the job for the Dagoretti based outfit who now climb to 7th with 43 points on the grid.

James Kombo scored the consolation goal for the visitors in the 54th minute but it did not do much for the West conference team who are staring at the relegation axe where they sit 12th with 32 points.

TUK 7-0 SHAMAKO BABES

Defending champions TUK took command of the SportPesa Super 8 Premier League temporarily after humiliating underdogs Shamako Babes 7-0 in a one sided affair played on Saturday 3 September at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho estate.

 

It was significant step in reclaiming the crown for the university students who now have 57 points at the top, piling more pressure on second-placed Jericho All Stars and fellow contenders Kayole Asubuhi who face each other on Sunday.

 

In the match, golden boot hopeful Jeconiah Uyoga helped himself to a treble, netting in the 32, 60 and 86 minutes respectively to deepen Shamako’s woes at the tail of the table standings.

 

Evans Otieno also scored a hat trick, claiming his first in the 15th minute then in the 41 and 42 minute correspondingly while also Lotan Mwagodi ensured his name was on the score sheet after finding the back of the net in the 24th minute.

 

The poor performance by the West conference team means their fate in sealed as they are certain of facing the drop to the second tier. They have a paltry 12 points gathered from 28 rounds of matches and sit at the base of the standings.

 

METRO SPORTS 1-2 AJAX 

Earlier on at the same venue, Metro Sports dwindling fortunes hit a new low after being shocked 1-2 by Rongai based Ajax Fc.

 

Roy Ochieng was the hero for Ajax after grabbing a brace where he scored in the 52 and 72 minutes respectively to steer his side to the victory which takes their point tally to 48 at 5th position on the grid.

 

After a scoreless first period, Metro’s goal poacher Peter Ambetsa broke the stalemate for the East conference team who remain put at 6th with 44 points after the results.

 

BABA DOGO UNITED 1-3 KIAMAIKO CITY

Elsewhere at Baba Dogo grounds, the battle for survival in the main league took a new direction for Kiamaiko City who took the spoils following a convincing 3-1 win over fellow relegation bound Baba Dogo United.

 

Kiamaiko were first to ink the score sheet in the 8th minute after Peter Kamau had found the back of the net before Marvin Otieno made it 2-0 in the 35th minute but that did not last long as Baba Dogo halved the deficit almost instantly to head into the break 2-1 in favor of visitors.

 

Daniel Mwangi scored the winning goal for the Huruma based team in the 80th minute to guide his team to 11th with 34 points on the standings while Baba Dogo face the axe as they sit 14th with a meagre 23 points.
