Ugandan football federation (FUFA) through their spokesperson Mr. Ahmed Hussein has firmly indicated they will not be dragged into the raging debate over what Head Coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic’s is owed in salary and other benefits, as they consider such issues in-house.
“We are not getting into that struggle; as employers of course there are things we need to protect especially when it comes to payment of our staff,” Ahmed told Soka25east.com via phone from Uganda.
When pressed to confirm whether FUFA has updated the Serbian’s salary or they still owe him, Mr. Ahmed said;
“We have already paid, but if he has chosen to take that route of blowing it up in the public of course we cannot respond to that.” He added.
A source very close to Micho told us the gaffer is demanding five month unpaid salary from the Eng. Moses Magogo led institution. On Wednesday, just days after leading Uganda Cranes to the 2017 Gabon African Cup of Nations, the 47-year old took to his Twitter account with a tweet that has set the online space a blaze and has elicited debate from almost all quarters.
“I know one country you steal trillions from people’s roads and eat big enjoying life or you make millions happy and proud through football and you eat nothing.” The tweet read.
The former Rwanda’s Amavubi manager left Ugandan premier league club SC Villa in 2004 over nonpayment of salary stretching ten months, he has however affirmed he will take the Cranes to Gabon next year, and thereafter decide his future.
Unlike DR Congo who was handsomely rewarded by the government $200,000 for a similar feat, nothing has been forthcoming for the East Africans yet, but Ahmed says, the mood is still celebratory.
“The people of Uganda are still celebrating, so I still can’t confirm anything in that regard.”
