Kariobangi Sharks scraped their way into the Gotv Shield semi-final by beating holders Bandari on penalties to keep alive their hopes of winning the trophy.
David Kingatua’s penalty put the dockers on course to reach semi-final, but Steven Odhiambo’s equaliser maintained Kariobangi Shark’s hopes of winning their first silverware.
The teams could not be separated in normal time having ended it an one all draw and, when it went to penalties, Bandari Dan Sserunkuma missed his spot-kick to put Kariobangi Sharks on the way to a meeting with Ulinzi Stars.
Antony Kimani,Edwin Lavasta,Musa Mudde and David Kingatua were all on target for Bandari- while Pascal Ongweno, Boniface Akenga,Wycliff Otieno,Eli Asieche and Ibrahim Kitawi scored for Kariobangi Sharks – leaving Stephen Odhiambo to send the Sharks fans wild with celebration and relief with the decisive penalty.
Bandari had the better of the chances in the first half , with Sharks keeper Malcom Oigo denying David Kingatua a clear chance with Omar Bora-Afya hitting the woodwork.
Sharks were rewarded in the 45th minute with Rodgers Omondi powerful left foot shot beating Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Okoth to take the lead.
Bandari’s Edwin Lavasta had his powerful shot saved superbly by Oigo before Mussa Mude arrived in 64th minute at the far post to score with long range thunder for an equalizer.
The National Super League side carried the momentum and in 57th minute the had a chance to double the lead when they were awarded a penalty, and Joseph Okoth was relieved once more when Pascal Ongweno stepped up for a fine rising shot that went over the bar.
The Dockers had gathered momentum and only the woodwork saved Sharks as David Kingatuas ‘s powerful shot rattled out off the angle of post and bar with Oigo helpless.
Then came penalties – and the shot at a semis Kariobangi Sharks have waited for long.
