Nick Mwendwa, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president has hinted at the national team playing a European opposition during June 2017 FIFA window.
“Next year in that June window a European team will play stars. Let’s keep working. Lets do this.” The youthful administrator tweeted last night.
This came minutes after the Harambee Stars slayed AFCON bound DR Congo’s Leopards 1-0 in an international friendly played at Stade de Martyrs, Kinshasa Tuesday.
Djurgaden IF high riding goal poacher netted the lone goal in the 65th minute – off Paul Were’s left cross which bounced off the woodwork.
Kenya, out of both AFCON 2017 and World Cup 2018 qualifiers will continue engaging different sides during FIFA days with a keen eye on the next Nations Cup in 2019 in Cameroon, as reiterated by FKF CEO Robert Muthomi.
“It is important, the team playing together and getting results is what matters for us right now,” Muthomi said.
“All these matches are geared towards 2019 AFCON qualification, FIFA ranking is a bonus.” He added.
Harambee Stars home based professionals are scheduled to host Cameroon in another friendly later this month, the team is set to start early preparations for CHAN 2018 which Kenya hosts.
