Football is a team sport but certain Individuals just give the world so many memories and give it their all, hence the fans remember their efforts and passion longer than that of the rest. Well one such case without doubt is the story of Africa’s most famous “number 11″, The Great Kalusha Bwalya.

Zambian football was recently inducted to Club
America’s hall of fame as part of the Mexican club’s centennial celebrations.

The celebrated legend is still as humble as he as always been, playing down his achievement and crediting his teammates for their efforts.

“It’s a great honor for me. But in a game of
football, one is not alone. I want to thank my
teammates and the coaches I worked with for
accepting me as I was. Coming from Africa,
myself and Francois Oman Biyik were always
treated so well. A part of me feels Mexican for the love of the people and its supporters. Forever grateful,” Kalu told supersport.com.

Kalusha joined Club America in 1994. The Mexican club’s home ground is the legendary Azteca, an arena of which the Zambian icon has very fond memories. As he told FIFA.com:

“I am privileged to have played in the best stadium in the world – and to have been able to call it my home ground.” The Mexico experience in general was cherished by Bwalya, who devoted almost eight years of his career to the country and recalls his time there as “probably the best of my life”.

Bwalya made headlines in Mexico playing for club America between 1994 to 1997 where he
featured in 88 games scoring 21 goals.

Whilst at the Club in 1996 he was voted as the 12th best player in the world by FIFA, the first to be nominated after playing the entire year for a non- European club.. At the 1988 olympics former world Champions Italy got a test of what Kalu could do when he put 3 past their goalkeeper in the infamous 4-1 massacre of Italy by Zambia.

This writer and the entire Soka25east.com team Congratulates you Great Kalu on your induction.
