Zamalek coach Momen Soliman has taken full responsibility, and apologized for 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in CAF champions league final first leg at Lucas Moripe Stadium, South Africa, Saturday, October 15.
“I take full responsibility, and I apologise to Zamalek fans for the mistakes,” Momen who promised to resign if he fails to deliver the title posted on his Facebook page.
The second leg takes place in a week’s time in Alexandria, Egypt, on October 23rd and the gaffer is still hopeful of reversing the huge deficit.
“We still have hope, and we are banking on everyone’s support.”
Liberian Antony Laffor, and Tebogo Langerman scored for the “Brazillians” in the first half; Islam Gamel, turned the ball into his own net, early in the second stanza to seal the emphatic victory.
Sundowns coach, Pitso Masimone, while heaping praises on his players for the stellar performance against the Egyptian giants, acknowledged the support and patriotism of South Africans who showed up in large numbers to cheer them.
“I think it would be an injustice if we don’t humble ourselves before all South Africans who came to support us and for the patriotism they showed,” Pitso said.
They now have one hand on the trophy, they came close to lifting for the first time in 2002 – losing out to Zamalek’s bitter rivals Al Ahly in the final.
